Laser-induced solid-solid phase transition in As under pressure: A theoretical prediction

چکیده
In Arsenic a pressure-induced solid-solid phase transition from the A7 into the simple cubic structure has been experimentally demonstrated [Beister et al. 1990 Phys. Rev. B 41 5535]. In this paper we present calculations, which predict that this phase transition can also be induced by an ultrashort laser pulse in As under pressure. In addition, calculations for the pressure-induced phase transition are presented. Using density functional theory in the generalized gradient approximation, we found that the pressure-induced phase transition takes place at 26.3 GPa and is accompanied by a volume change ∆V = 0.5 a0/atom. The laser-induced phase transition is predicted for an applied pressure of 23.8 GPa and an absorbed laser energy of 2.8 mRy/atom. Elastic-Plastic Transition of Pressurized Functionally Graded Orthotropic Cylinder using Seth’s Transition Theory
In this paper the radial deformation and the corresponding stresses in a functionally graded orthotropic hollow cylinder with the variation in thickness and density according to power law and rotating about its axis under pressure is investigated by using Seth's transition theory. The material of the cylinder is assumed to be non-homogeneous and orthotropic. This theory helps to achieve better ...
متن کاملRaman scattering studies on n-heptane under high pressure.
High-pressure Raman scattering studies at ambient temperature are performed on n-heptane. We observe a liquid-solid transition around 1.5 GPa from the changes in the Raman spectra. This has been reported in earlier works. With increasing pressure, we observe large changes in the Raman modes and the spectra show a distinct change around 7.5 GPa. This marks the solid-solid transition at 7.5 GPa o...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics simulation of interaction of Melittin and DMPC bilayer: Temperature dependence
The interaction between proteins and membranes has an important role in biological pro-cesses.We have calculated energies of interaction between Melittin and DMPC bilayer in differenttemperatures. We have used the CHARMM software for MD simulation under the canonical (N,V, E) ensemble at different temperatures. The computations have shown that water moleculeshave more penetration into the bilay...

Buckling and post buckling of cylindrical shells under hydrostatic pressure is regarded as important issue in structure of submarines. These cylindrical shells have variable thickness due to construction process which effected by pressure of buckling and its destruction. In this paper, effects of changing thickness on buckling and destruction pressure under external hydrostatic pressure of a sh...
متن کاملPhase transition at low ̄uences in laser desorption of organic solids: a molecular dynamics study
Molecular dynamics of a short pulse laser irradiation of a molecular crystal are performed to investigate the dependence of the mechanism of ejection on laser ̄uence. We ®nd that at low laser ̄uences molecules are desorbed from a thin surface layer of solid sample. An increase in the laser ̄uence leads to the melting of the surface region and desorption occurs from an overheated melted state. A...
